Dr. Colleen Gnyp grew up in Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan and still cheers for the Roughriders. She graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2001. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
She opened Vivid Eye Care (formerly Cranston Market Optometry) in 2010 to provide excellent eyecare to the communities of SouthEast Calgary. Dr. Gnyp believes in the importance of lifelong eye health exams from infant through senior years, and is committed to providing state of the art eye care in a welcoming environment.
She works with each patient to provide personalized eye care and eyewear recommendations to improve their quality of life. She has a special interest in refractive eye surgery and has worked at both LASIK-MD and Gimbel Eye Centre.
Dr. Colleen Gnyp believes in “giving back” and volunteers as a Scout leader, a Community Board member, and as an outreach optometrist and educator both in Calgary and internationally. She is enthusiastic about outdoor activities including hiking, skiing and fishing and loves to trade travel stories. She and husband Malcolm and have two young children Matthew and Sarah who keep them busy with youth soccer, dance and hockey.
Dr. Adrienne LeVasseur received a Bachelor of Science with Honours, Subject of Specialization in research, at Queen’s University. She published results from her research at the Queen’s University Eye Movement Laboratory before obtaining her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. She practiced in Ottawa and served as Vice President for the Ottawa Society of Optometrists before moving to Calgary. She has extensive experience working with refractive surgeons as well as in general family optometry, and serves as a member of the Canadian Examiners in Optometry.
Dr. LeVasseur has traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Philippines to provide eye care to underprivileged populations.
Adrienne is a second generation optometrist who claims that her father’s obvious enjoyment for his career motivated her to pursue optometry. She is pleased to offer eye examinations in French and Spanish as well as English. Dr. LeVasseur enjoys the variety of outdoor activities that Calgary and surrounding areas have to offer. She takes great interest in preventative health and teaches fitness classes in her spare time.
Dr. Patrick Wu received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University and is a Doctorate of Optometry graduate at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2015.
Dr. Wu is dedicated to building a strong rapport with his patients while providing excellent eye care and patient education. He has a special interest in pediatric exams and specialty contact lens. He is also a member of the Canadian and Alberta Association of Optometrists as well as the Calgary Society of Optometrists.
Dr. Wu is a Toronto native who moved to Calgary after getting married. He enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, road cycling and spending time with his wife, Selena and son, Zachary. He also enjoys cooking, playing guitar and is an avid basketball, baseball and hockey fan.
Dr. Shane Cornelson was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg. He went on to complete his Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 2017 on the Dean’s Honours list.
During his last year at Waterloo, Shane completed a four-month ocular disease and therapeutics externship at OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD. He also had the opportunity to take part in an optometric mission trip with Canadian Vision Care in Jamaica, where the team provided eye examinations and glasses to those in need. Shane finished his primary care rotation in downtown Calgary, where he gained further training in corneal disease and specialty contact lenses.
Shane enjoys spending time with friends and staying active. You can find him out hiking, biking, and golfing in the summer, or playing hockey and snowboarding in the winter. He looks forward to visiting his family and hometown friends in Winnipeg and spending time at his cabin during the holidays. Shane has travelled to Thailand, Jamaica, and Mexico and hopes to visit many more countries in the future.
Shane is dedicated to providing exceptional care and education on eye health and visual demands to his patients. He is excited to be working in Calgary with Vivid Eye Care and looks forward to meeting you!
Dr. Jalyn Johnson has had a passion for eyes since a young age. After moving to Calgary to further her education, she completed her Bachelors of Biological Science from the University of Calgary in 2005. She then headed to Chicago and and received her Doctorate of Optometry with honours from Illinois College of Optometry in 2010.
Dr. Johnson has been practicing in southern Calgary since returning in 2010. She enjoys taking the time to get to know her patients, which helps her provide exceptional eye care based on their personalized needs. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, as well as the Alberta Association of Optometrists.
When not at work, Dr. Johnson enjoys playing piano, working on her current cross-stitch project, and spending time with her family. She looks forward to meeting you!
Our Certified Optometric Assistant and Operations Manager, Glenda Schatz, comes to our office with experience working in a large dispensary for 2 years before moving to Calgary in 2012. She is skilled and experienced in all aspects of frame selection, lens selection, fitting, and adjustment of eyewear. She understands the importance of educating you on the features and benefits found in different quality frames and lenses so you can make the right decision about your purchase of eyewear and sunwear. Along with experience in front line customer service, she stays up to date on the latest innovations to ensure you get the right advice on lens type, lens coatings and lens selection for your specific visual needs. Quality does matter, and her expertise in frame and lens selection will allow you to make an educated choice. Glenda takes pride in her skills as an optical dispensing consultant and Optometric Assistant, and you can trust her good judgment when it comes to both frames and the right lenses to go in them.
Rayza came to us with 5 years experience in the industry. She specializes in preliminary testing and assisting in the doctor’s eye exams.
Originally from Colombia, she is eager in helping any of our Spanish-speaking patients to better understand their exam. Rayza has received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration for Accounting at Mount Royal University. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, traveling to sunny destinations and spending time with friends and family.
Danielle is originally from Northern Ireland and comes to us with over 15 years experience in the Optical industry. Danielle has a genuine interest in people and she enjoys connecting with patients to help them find the perfect solution to suit their eye care needs. Danielle especially enjoys working with the little kids that come into the clinic. She loves helping with frame and lens selection and is trained in adjusting and fitting frames for maximum comfort.
As one of our Eye Care Consultants, Danni comes to our office with over 10 years experience working in a large dispensary before joining our team in 2017. Along with great customer service, she ensures you always get the right frame and lenses for your lifestyle. Danni loves to travel and have fun with friends and family.
Morgan came to our office in 2018 with over 5 years of experience in the industry. As our receptionist, she is the first face patients see when they enter our office. She loves helping people and has a passion for health and wellness. Born and raised in Calgary, Morgan loves spending time with her daughter, Dilara, and her dog Ryder. She loves to cook and is an entrepreneur on the side.
Our office is part of the Cranston Market Clinic and is just two minutes off of Deerfoot Trail. Vivid Eye Care is in the same plaza as the Sobey’s and Scotiabank.
