Dr. Joanna Komar was born in Poland and moved to the United States at the age of 16. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from City University of New York Baruch College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Vision Science from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She graduated with honors and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University. She then went on to complete an Ocular Disease residency at the New York Harbor Health Veterans Affairs Hospital in Brooklyn.
For five years Dr. Komar was a part of a fast-paced ophthalmology clinic in Queens, New York, where she gained an extensive experience managing a variety of ocular diseases, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, neuro-ophthalmic eye problems and eye infections. She has also been co-managing cataract surgery patients, as well as fitting contact lenses. She is a proud mom of two little boys and a girl, and loves seeing children of all ages. She can provide exams in English, Polish and Russian.
Dr. Komar moved from New York to Calgary in 2021. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, travelling, fitness, cooking and baking.
