Dr. Colleen Gnyp grew up in Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan and still cheers for the Roughriders. She graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2001. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
She opened Vivid Eye Care (formerly Cranston Market Optometry) in 2010 to provide excellent eyecare to the communities of SouthEast Calgary. Dr. Gnyp believes in the importance of lifelong eye health exams from infant through senior years, and is committed to providing state of the art eye care in a welcoming environment.
She works with each patient to provide personalized eye care and eyewear recommendations to improve their quality of life. She has a special interest in refractive eye surgery and has worked at both LASIK-MD and Gimbel Eye Centre.
Dr. Colleen Gnyp believes in “giving back” and volunteers as a Scout leader, a Community Board member, and as an outreach optometrist and educator both in Calgary and internationally. She is enthusiastic about outdoor activities including hiking, skiing and fishing and loves to trade travel stories. She and husband Malcolm and have two young children Matthew and Sarah who keep them busy with youth soccer, dance and hockey.
Dr. Abdelkader (Kader) Soufi is a graduate from the University of Manitoba where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree. He earned the opportunity to study internationally in Britain at Glasgow Caledonian University where he completed his Optometry degree with honours before returning to the University of Waterloo to successfully complete the IOBP. He has practiced and gained experience in both private clinics and hospital environments over the last several years. Dr. Kader’s focus and passion is found in finding your glasses and contact lens prescription and giving you the most clear and comfortable vision that you deserve. Moreover, he’s passionate about treating and managing ocular disease as well as successfully fitting contact lenses after additional training and seminars at The Johnson & Johnson Institute as well as via Coopervision.
Dr. Rose Kombo completed her Bachelor of Science with a minor is Sociology at the University of Calgary. She then attended The New England College of Optometry in Boston where she interned at various health centers and hospitals. In her final year of training, Dr. Kombo completed multiple honourable externships including a contact lens externship in Miami, an ocular disease externship at the University of Maryland and an externship at the East Boston Health Center. She also obtained valuable experience in an ocular disease externship at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Dr. Kombo has been practicing in Calgary since she graduated in 2015 and is very excited to join the Vivid Eye Care team where she will use her knowledge and skills to provide exceptional eye care to all members of the community.
On her free time, Dr. Kombo loves spending time with her family, travelling and watching movies.
Dr. Adrienne LeVasseur received a Bachelor of Science with Honours, Subject of Specialization in research, at Queen’s University. She published results from her research at the Queen’s University Eye Movement Laboratory before obtaining her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. She practiced in Ottawa and served as Vice President for the Ottawa Society of Optometrists before moving to Calgary. She has extensive experience working with refractive surgeons as well as in general family optometry, and serves as a member of the Canadian Examiners in Optometry.
Dr. LeVasseur has traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Philippines to provide eye care to underprivileged populations.
Adrienne is a second generation optometrist who claims that her father’s obvious enjoyment for his career motivated her to pursue optometry. She is pleased to offer eye examinations in French and Spanish as well as English. Dr. LeVasseur enjoys the variety of outdoor activities that Calgary and surrounding areas have to offer. She takes great interest in preventative health and teaches fitness classes in her spare time.
Our Certified Optometric Assistant and Operations Manager, Glenda Schatz, comes to our office with experience working in a large dispensary for 2 years before moving to Calgary in 2012. She is skilled and experienced in all aspects of frame selection, lens selection, fitting, and adjustment of eyewear. She understands the importance of educating you on the features and benefits found in different quality frames and lenses so you can make the right decision about your purchase of eyewear and sunwear. Along with experience in front line customer service, she stays up to date on the latest innovations to ensure you get the right advice on lens type, lens coatings and lens selection for your specific visual needs. Quality does matter, and her expertise in frame and lens selection will allow you to make an educated choice. Glenda takes pride in her skills as an optical dispensing consultant and Optometric Assistant, and you can trust her good judgment when it comes to both frames and the right lenses to go in them.
Rayza came to us with 5 years experience in the industry. She specializes in preliminary testing and assisting in the doctor’s eye exams.
Originally from Colombia, she is eager in helping any of our Spanish-speaking patients to better understand their exam. Rayza has received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration for Accounting at Mount Royal University. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, traveling to sunny destinations and spending time with friends and family.
Morgan came to our office in 2018 with over 5 years of experience in the industry. As our receptionist, she is the first face patients see when they enter our office. She loves helping people and has a passion for health and wellness. Born and raised in Calgary, Morgan loves spending time with her daughter, Dilara, and her dog Ryder. She loves to cook and is an entrepreneur on the side.
Our Personal Eyewear Consultant Greg has over 40 years of experience in the industry. He prides himself in helping you all aspects of frame selection, fitting and providing you insightful knowledge on lens selection to compliment all your lifestyle requirements. He recognizes that there many important factors to consider in providing you with the best overall eyewear choices and will consult with you to understand and personalize your choices to exceed all your needs.
Anum comes to our office with 2 years of experience, having worked in the United States and Canada. She is very passionate about working in Optometry and hopes to pursue an education in Optometry in the near future. Anum is one of our “uncapped superheroes”, or supertech, which means she will be by your side throughout your entire eye exam experience. As a supertech, she helps with diagnostic testing before seeing the doctor, as well as frame and lens selection after the exam. Anum is very enthusiastic about excellent patient care and is willing to help in any one of the many languages she speaks (six, to be exact)! If you happen to see her around the clinic, give her a high-five or talk to her about soccer, it’ll make her day!
Our office is part of the Cranston Market Clinic and is just two minutes off of Deerfoot Trail. Vivid Eye Care is in the same plaza as the Sobey’s and Scotiabank.
